How to Prepare Files for Printing

Properly preparing files for printing ensures high-quality results and prevents issues during the printing process.

  1. Resolution: Set your files to the appropriate resolution for print. Generally, a resolution of 300 DPI (dots per inch) is recommended for high-quality print output.
  2. Color Mode: Use the CMYK color mode for print files, as this mode is designed for the color mixing used in printing. Convert RGB files to CMYK before sending them to print.
  3. Bleed and Trim Marks: Add bleed and trim marks to your design to account for any slight shifts during printing and cutting. Bleed extends the design beyond the trim area to ensure that there are no white edges.
  4. File Formats: Save your files in print-ready formats, such as PDF, TIFF, or EPS. Ensure that all fonts are embedded or converted to outlines to avoid font-related issues.
  5. Proofing: Request a printed proof before finalizing the print run. This allows you to review the physical print quality and make any necessary adjustments.
